New Exchange Lets You Trade Pokémon Cards and Cemetery Plots on the Same Ticker
Analysts say the combined index will finally settle whether a shiny Charizard or a shaded plot near the old oak holds value better over the long term.
Traders gathered this morning for the opening bell of the newly formed Exchange for Collectibles and Eternal Rest, which allows investors to buy and sell rare Pokémon card sets and cemetery plots on a single dynamic-pricing ticker. Organizers say both markets suffer from what they call irrational scarcity anxiety, and that unifying them will bring much-needed clarity to two industries that have never once been compared before this newsletter did it as a joke.
"A grave with good drainage and a first-edition holographic Charizard are, at the end of the day, both about long-term storage," said a floor trader, adjusting a spreadsheet of tombstone futures between sips of coffee.
The exchange also employs a small team of grief counselors stationed near the trading floor, on hand for investors whose plot values dip after a competitor cemetery opens next door with nicer landscaping, a phenomenon traders now refer to informally as a reprint. Meanwhile, holders of certain Pokémon sets have reportedly started referring to their binders as "pre-need packages," just to see how it feels.
Early trading was described as volatile, with card values ticking upward through the morning while plot prices softened slightly, a divergence one analyst attributed to seasonal shifts in what she called "eternal sentiment." The exchange has not yet announced whether it will offer combined bundles, though several investors were overheard asking whether a plot could be buried alongside its matching card set for sentimental appreciation.
Officials closed the day by reminding investors that diversification remains key, and that no portfolio should consist entirely of either eternal rest or eternal packs.
