Switzerland Debuts 'Vanishing Vintage' Glacier Water Club, Touts Faster Melt as a Premium Feature
A new subscription box promises subscribers that every bottle is scarcer than the one before it, by design.
Alpine officials have unveiled a members-only bottled water service built entirely around the accelerating disappearance of the country's glaciers, with marketing materials describing each monthly shipment as a 'limited pour from a disappearing source.'
The service ships small glass bottles etched with the date of collection, alongside a certificate noting how much smaller the source glacier has become since the previous shipment. Early tiers include the 'Meltwater Reserve' and the more expensive 'Final Season,' which promises bottling rights from ice fields expected to vanish entirely within subscribers' lifetimes.
'We wanted people to feel the urgency,' said a spokesperson for the club, who was not named and appeared to be reading from a card. 'Nothing says premium quite like knowing the source will no longer exist to complain about being bottled.'
Field teams have reportedly been instructed to prioritize bottling speed over sample documentation, since, according to internal guidance, 'a beautifully labeled bottle matters more than knowing exactly which glacier it came from, given how quickly that information becomes irrelevant.'
The waitlist for 'Final Season' is said to be growing in direct proportion to each new report of record ice loss, with the club noting that demand tends to spike whenever the melting accelerates.
