Riyadh Airport Launches Frequent-Survivor Rewards Program After Second Strike in Two Days
Passengers who make it through consecutive attacks will now earn status points, a laminated card, and early boarding on whichever flight actually departs.
Following the second Houthi strike on the facility in as many days, airport management announced a new tiered loyalty program designed, in the words of one internal memo, to 'turn resilience into a redeemable benefit.' Travelers who experience two or more disruptions within a rolling 48-hour window automatically qualify for Silver status, which includes a commemorative lounge pass and a tote bag.
A spokesperson for the program, who declined to give a name or confirm whether they themselves worked at the airport, explained the logic. "We wanted guests to feel like their experience counted for something," they said, adjusting a lanyard that read ASK ME ABOUT MILES. "Every delay is an opportunity. Every evacuation is a touchpoint."
Gold-tier members, reached after a third qualifying incident, will receive priority rebooking on the next available aircraft, provided one exists and the runway does. Platinum, the program's top tier, is described internally only as 'aspirational' and has not yet been awarded to anyone, a fact the spokesperson called 'a sign of how exclusive we want it to feel.'
The airport's customer relations team is reportedly drafting a satisfaction survey to be distributed after future strikes, though the survey itself has already been rescheduled twice due to circumstances the memo described as 'on brand.'
Asked whether the program addressed the underlying cause of the disruptions, the spokesperson said that was outside the scope of loyalty marketing and referred further questions to whichever department still had working phone lines.
